Health Fairs and Screenings
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Centers
Through WIC Centers in Los Angeles County, Ostrow provides oral health screenings for babies and at-risk children and crucial information for their parents about nutrition and good oral health habits.
Ostrow faculty and students provide oral health screenings to children and train early childhood educators through Head Start programs throughout Los Angeles.
Give Kids a Smile Day
Give Kids a Smile Day takes place every February during National Children’s Dental Health Month to improve oral health for underserved children. Ostrow’s Give Kids a Smile program offers preventive treatment and services to 300–500 children at a neighborhood elementary school each year.
Smoking Cessation – The Great American Smoke-Out
Ostrow offers smoking-cessation services to patients through our clinics, and partners with the American Cancer Society and USC Colleges Against Cancer on programs such as the Great American Smokeout and community health fairs. Dental hygiene faculty and students also provide anti-tobacco education at local schools and community events throughout the year.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Ostrow students volunteer to promote oral health, provide free screenings and give preventive care instruction and educational materials at more than 20 health fairs each year in schools, agencies, churches and other community locations. We often use our mobile dental clinics at these events.
