Ostrow School of Dentistry Mourns Dr. Frank C. Blair Jr.
Dr. Frank C. Blair Jr., a 1942 graduate of the Ostrow School of Dentistry, passed away January 10, 2011 at the age of 92.
A lifelong resident of Long Beach, California, Blair attended Wilson High School and Long Beach Community College before enrolling at USC. Following his graduation from the Ostrow School of Dentistry, he served his country in the Navy for four years before returning to Long Beach to open his private dental practice.
Blair was a steadfast supporter for USC as well as many organizations and institutions in Long Beach. As a dentist, he enjoyed being an active volunteer and advocate, providing free dental screenings to children, campaigning for water fluoridation in Long Beach, serving on the Long Beach Board of Health, being active in several dental organizations, and teaching part-time at the Ostrow School of Dentistry. As a proud USC alumnus, he was a member of Cardinal and Gold as well as the USC Associates, and he served the Ostrow School of Dentistry as a Presidential member of the Friends of Dentistry support group.
Along with the gift of his time, his financial generosity allowed for the creation of important learning environments in the Ostrow School of Dentistry. Both the Frank and Ruth Blair Video Teleconferencing Hall and the Blair Lecture Rooms, on the first floor of the east end of the Norris Dental Science Center, have served as educational settings for hundreds of students since their construction.
