Second Floor Clinic Renovation Now Underway
Dear School of Dentistry Community,
I am pleased to announce that contracts have been completed for the 2nd floor clinic renovation. After an extensive process of evaluating dental equipment manufacturers and an open bidding process conducted by the University, A-dec has been selected to provide the dental equipment, including dental chairs, delivery units, lights, doctor stools and assistant stools. A-dec has a long history of manufacturing, supporting and servicing dental equipment, especially in an institutional setting such as ours. We are confident that they bring the quality and functionality that will enhance the educational experience of our students and will provide many years of service with state-of-the-art dental equipment and instrumentation.
Infrastructure work has already begun to support the new equipment. The replacement and upgrade of the central vacuum system and compressed air system began during the Thanksgiving Holiday break and will be completed during the upcoming Holiday Break. A-dec will be installing all of the equipment in the clinic during the April 2010 break. We will work with A-dec to ensure that the installation does not interfere with the April WREB Examination, and we will also ensure that the entire clinic is not shut down in order to prevent the loss of valuable clinic time to provide patient care and to ensure on-time graduation for our seniors.
This is phase one of the clinic renovation. As funding is made available, additional steps of the renovation project will take place, with all aspects of the clinic — cubicle partitions, cabinetry, flooring, ceiling, waiting room, wet labs and restrooms – eventually undergoing remodeling. I would like to thank Dean Avishai Sadan for his support and guidance and Dr. Michael Mulvehill, Tom Nizetich and Calen Ouellette for their invaluable assistance and for the many hours they have devoted to making this project a success. More importantly, I’d like to acknowledge those donors who helped make this first phase of the renovation a reality. Only with their support and dedication can we educate the future leaders of dentistry.
This is an exciting project that has been in the planning stages for a long time. The replacement of all 2nd floor dental equipment with state-of-the-art equipment, along with our outstanding world-class faculty, will continue to ensure that the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC provides our students the very best clinical education of any dental school in the world.
