EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Central to combatting disparities in oral health is empowering and enlisting others to be advocates.  The school engages in several innovative programs aimed at educating other health proffesionals to recognize dental disease and to understand its implications.  For instance, school nurses are often the first and in many cases last point of contact for young children with dental disease.  By providing them with the education and tools to properly diagnose and refer these cases, nurses become our front line defense against more serious infection and needless loss of dentition.

Current educational programs include:

Spanish for Dentistry
Pacific Aids Education and Training Center
Women and Community
First Five Smiles Program
Teeny Teeth Program – Young and Healthy
The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation
